Week Without Walls 2022: Day 1

  • 2021-2022

Week Without Walls 2022 is off to a roaring start!

What is Week Without Walls?

A core part of the ICS experience, Week Without Walls is the cornerstone of our Middle and High School service learning program. The lessons and learnings of our students in the service learning program are embedded in the students’ weekly Chapel meetings and small group times throughout the year and culminate in a weeklong service-oriented project in the Spring. In pre-schopandemic times, students would participate in an overseas service trip to support the work of ongoing NGOs in neighboring countries. Since 2020, our students have learned to find opportunities to serve the larger community here in Singapore and on campus.

Students participating in Week Without Walls learn to [be]:

  • Resilient: Students work hard and push through difficult situations to find solutions

  • Serve Others: Students at ICS are mission-driven - they learn to look outside of themselves and to find opportunities to serve others

  • Community-Focused: Students are intentionally paired with others in different grades to learn how to listen and serve alongside those that may be different from themselves - they also lead activities for the Elementary students and learn to coach others

This year’s theme for Week Without Walls is becoming “People of Jubilee” who bring justice, mercy, joy, and beauty to our communities. Let’s take a look at how this will play out this year!

What’s happening this week?

  • Campus beautification projects - Students are planting, designing and painting murals, repainting learning spaces, and building out an outdoor exercise space

  • Leading Elementary SEW - Students will be hosting art projects, small groups, running games, worship sessions, service projects, and more

  • Service at Genesis School - Students will help paint outdoor equipment for Genesis School, a school for special needs students

  • Service at St. Luke’s - Students will conduct Zoom game sessions with several St. Luke’s centers for the elderly and others will create and deliver care packages to a local St. Luke’s center

  • Service at Willing Hearts - Students will join Willing Hearts, a non-profit organization in Singapore operating a soup kitchen, to prepare and package meals
