February 10, Contingency plans in the event of closure

Dear ICS Community,

As you know, the Singapore government is sending updated information out about the Coronavirus on a daily basis. We have been working proactively with our faculty and staff to put a plan in place for online learning should we receive a mandate from the Singapore government temporarily closing ICS. At this point in time, the Singapore government has indicated that ICS is to remain open.

If ICS has to close, we will continue to use Schoology as our primary platform for student learning. All assignments and work will continue to be communicated through Schoology. Links to any additional platforms or websites will be available through Schoology in each day's assignments. This week, teachers will be working with students to ensure students know how to access Schoology and any additional online learning platforms.

On the first day after school is canceled, teachers will be preparing for online learning. On the second day after school is canceled, families with children in Grades 1-8 will be able to come onto campus to collect technology and any additional materials at designated times. Parents will also be able to speak with our IT department in the canteen if they need any assistance with online accounts. On the third day after school is canceled, we would begin online classes.

At the end of this email, you will find additional information for each division's plan for online learning. Should we be required to temporarily close the school, we will provide further information to you regarding online learning via email and Schoology.

We are continuing to monitor the dynamic situation here in Singapore as the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education continue to issue updated guidelines designed to protect the health and safety of our community. Should we have to close the school, we will inform you via email, SMS, and Schoology.

Elementary School

All homeroom teachers will be checking in individually with students and parents via Zoom at least once per week. Teachers will contact parents via Schoology to set up a time to check-in individually with each child and provide the Zoom link.

All homeroom teachers will post a daily "Morning Meeting" video in Schoology for their classes for parents and students to watch together. Teachers will also be checking Schoology throughout the day to check for completed assignments and to answer student and parent questions.

Grades K4 & K5: Homeroom teachers will introduce new assignments once per week in Schoology and provide videos explaining the assignments. Teachers will post a video for the teacher to explain the assignment. Parents will be able to review this video with their child. Parents will need to use a personal device at home to access these materials for their children. Throughout the week, students will practice their skills through these assignments to develop mastery of the content.

In Grades 1-5, students will be assigned a school-owned device to take home. This week, our teachers will be working with your children to make sure students in Grades 1-5 are able to access Schoology through their devices.

Grades 1 & 2: Homeroom teachers will introduce new assignments three times per week in Schoology and provide videos explaining the assignments. Parents will be able to review these videos with their child. On the days where new assignments are not posted, students will be able to practice their skills as they develop mastery of the content.

Grades 3, 4, & 5: Homeroom teachers will introduce new assignments every day in Schoology and provide videos explaining the assignments. Parents will be able to review these videos with their child.

For our related arts courses, your child's teacher will be providing enrichment lessons and activities to complete twice per week.

For students who receive ESL or learning support services, these teachers will be using Schoology and Zoom to check in with their students. ESL and learning support teachers will be tracking student progress on Schoology and offer support as necessary.

Middle and High School

All teachers will be providing instruction via Schoology as a course update with links to that day's assignment.

On Mondays and Tuesdays, students will have live classes in each course. These classes will be held live on Schoology Conferences within each course. During live classes, teachers will prepare one class-wide activity so students can continue to grow as a community. Teachers will also explain any assignments for that week. Attendance will be taken for live classes. Please note that students will need their school Chromebook or Macbook to participate in Schoology Conferences; a phone or tablet will not be sufficient.

On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, teachers will post the assignment for that day's classes by 7:30 a.m. Teachers will be available online on these days during the normal school hours to support students as needed. Parents and students can expect a teacher to respond to enquiries by 3:10; however, enquiries that come in after 3:10 may be answered the next school day.

Assignments, postings, and due dates for all classes will continue with the red and blue day schedule. In middle and high school, students should continue to expect the amount of work to be similar to that of a regular school day and should structure their day so that they are working on all of their red or blue day classes for that day.
