As the leaders of the High School Student Council, Caitlyn Liu (President) and Beatrice Lorenzo (VP) work side-by-side to share and promote the student body's ideas and interests with the rest of the community.

Dear ICS faculty, staff, students, and parents,

My name is Caitlyn Liu, and I am a current high school senior. I have the privilege to serve once again as this year’s Student Council President.

Over the past three years, Student Council has been a great way for me to express my voice and extend my leadership abilities beyond just the classroom. Despite COVID-19, I am excited for what is to come for this new school year, and how we can improve from reflecting on last year.

The pandemic heavily impacted Student Council last year, as we were unable to organize and host several of the events we had in the works. This year, however, we want to make it a priority to push past physical boundaries and consider how we might strive to bring the community together, even if it is just through virtual activities.

Moving forward, one of the major considerations we want to maximize this year is our involvement in the school community. One of the primary things we would like to increase is the activity on our Instagram. This past summer, I was an intern for the Marketing and Communications department's LAUNCH Program, where I learned the power of connecting with your audience and establishing a name for your brand––in Student Council’s case, the ICS community's faculty and staff, students, and families. To support this, our goal is to post on @ics_stuco once a week, with each member responsible for at least one post this semester. For example, this past week we uploaded a series of Instagram story polls to help engage our audience, introducing them to the different members of the Student Council team.

Although we have been faced with many ups and downs this year that have caused much frustration and distress, I believe that it will also be a year of unexpected jubilee and unification. Despite being physically distanced, our Student Council team is working hard to find ways to keep our community connected!

Sincerely,

Caitlyn Liu
