ICS publishes our application for the new academic year in February, and we start accepting new students in mid-March.
We accept students in pre-kindergarten (K4) to 8th grade throughout the year on a rolling basis dependent on space availability. All new students must start school by March 31st.
Students in 9th to 11th grades can start school twice a year at the beginning of each semester in August and January. Students in 12th grade can start school in August at the beginning of semester 1 only.*
*If you are moving to Singapore in the middle of 12th grade, please contact our admissions office.
This age chart is a good starting point for determining your child’s grade level. Since students are joining ICS from various countries and educational systems around the world, the final decision about grade placement is dependent on a variety of factors. Our Admissions team in conjunction with the school principal will holistically review your child’s school reports, academic assessment, letter of recommendation, English language ability, and special support needed to determine which grade your child will be the most successful in here at ICS.
As a general rule, students coming from a school system with a different academic calendar year (e.g. South Korea, Singapore, India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand) will continue in their current grade level when they enter ICS and will not be allowed to skip ahead. Parents can request that their student be assessed to skip half a grade. However, ICS reserves the right to make the decision about final grade placement.
ENROLLMENT AGE GUIDELINES
Age (before Sep 1)
ICS offers limited services at a small additional fee for students with special learning needs or specific learning disabilities. If your child has specialized schooling requirements, please provide our admissions team with documentation of these needs and the reasons for the requirements. Our primary goal is to make sure that we can support your child and set them up for success here at ICS. We will only offer your child admission if there is a match between your child’s needs and the level of support we can provide.
Please feel free to contact our Admissions department directly if your child is currently receiving support for academic, social/emotional, or behavioral concerns or if you feel they may need to. We would be happy to discuss your child’s particular needs and review any documentation you may have before you begin the application process.
English is the primary language of classroom instruction and community life at ICS. If English is not your child’s native language, they may need to take a grade-appropriate English Language Proficiency Assessment before applying. To set your child up for the best chance at success here at ICS, we have established the following English Language proficiency requirements:
Pre-Kindergarten (K4) and Kindergarten (K5)
Children entering our Pre-Kindergarten (K4) and Kindergarten (K5) classes do not need to be formally assessed for English language abilities. At this young age, we have found that language acquisition is developed naturally because your child is immersed in an English-language environment.
Grade 1 to Grade 8
Children entering grades 1 to 8 must be at an intermediate English level to be eligible to apply. If they score at an intermediate level, they will be required to participate in our ESL program. This program requires a small additional fee and is limited to a small number of students each year. If ESL is required, our Admissions Team will confirm that there is space available in your child’s grade before starting the application process.
Grade 9 to Grade 12
Students entering grades 9 to 12 must be at a proficient English level to be eligible to apply. ICS does not have an ESL program at our high school level.
Scheduling your English Language Proficiency Assessment
If your child is not a native English speaker or has not completed a significant part of their educational experience in an English language setting, our English Language Proficiency Assessment is required.
Please contact our helpful Admissions Team to schedule your child’s assessment. The cost is S$250 payable at the time of testing, and this fee is not refundable under any circumstance. Please review our Tuition and Fees and Financial Information if you have further questions.
All assessments are conducted on campus at ICS and take approximately 2 hours. We will assess their English abilities in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
If your child does not meet the minimum English requirement, they will not be allowed to apply and must wait 6 months before retesting.
To join ICS, please make sure that your child holds one of the following valid passes:
- Dependent Pass
- Exemption Order or Diplomatic Pass
- Singapore Permanent Residency (PR)
- Student Pass
- Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) approval letter for Singapore citizens to study at ICS.
We regret to inform you that your child will not be allowed to enter school or remain in school with an invalid or expired pass.
Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) Approval for Singaporean Citizens
Children aged 4 to 5 (Pre-kindergarten (K4) and Kindergarten (K5)) who are Singaporean citizens do not require MOE approval.
In accordance with Singapore law, students aged 6 or older who are Singapore citizens must be granted approval by the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) to study at ICS.
Our Admissions Team will submit the necessary documentation to the MOE before a place at ICS has been formally offered. Please allow 8 - 12 weeks for this process.
Children will require a Student Pass if:
- Their parents are permanent residents of Singapore, but the child is not.
- The child is currently residing in Singapore on a Long Term Visit Pass (LTVP).
- Neither parent has an employment pass.
- The child is not eligible for a Dependent Pass.
- Your child is changing to ICS from another school in Singapore where they currently hold a Student Pass.
After your child has been accepted, our Admissions Team will assist you through the Student Pass registration process. Parents are responsible for completing and submitting all necessary information through the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA)’s Student Pass Online Application & Registration+ (SOLAR+) system. Please allow at least one month for this process. Your child will not be allowed to attend school until they have received their Student Pass.
Applications for a new student pass and its renewal require a considerable amount of time. Some applicants may experience complications, delay, and even rejection. Approval of a Student pass is solely the decision of ICA and the school does not have any authority or influences over it. Student Pass issued is not transferable and will expire upon the student ceasing to be a Student of ICS.
It is the responsibility of parent(s)/guardian(s) to request Student Pass renewal from the school at least 6 weeks before expiration of their current pass. After a Student Pass holder’s passport has been renewed or changed, parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to submit a copy of the renewed or new passport to student record office.
For all pass holders:
It is the parent / guardian’s responsibility to keep the pass up to date and, upon renewal, to submit a copy of the renewed pass to the ICS student records office. If ICS discovers any pass that has expired, the student records office will:
1. Contact you to inform you that your child’s pass has expired.
2. Inform the Academic Office that the student will not be attending class the following day due to the invalid pass.
3. Allow the child to return to school only upon receipt of his/her valid pass.
At ICS, we care for every child’s well-being and health. In accordance with the Singapore National Childhood Immunization Schedule (National Immunization Registry) and law of the country, ICS requires that ALL students MUST be immunized for the following:
- Measles*, Mumps, Rubella (MMR or MMR-V) - (2 doses)
- Diphtheria*, Tetanus and Pertussis (DTaP, DTP, DT or Tdap) - (4-5 doses)
The original immunization record must be provided to the school prior to enrollment for verification.
As of 1 February 2019, it is mandatory that all children aged 12 and below who were not born in Singapore must provide evidence of the Singapore required immunizations when applying for long-term residency passes. For more information, please refer to the Health Promotion Board’s website which outlines the process and frequently asked questions.
All students in grades 1-12 are required to take a computer-based academic assessment as part of their admissions process. Academic assessments are held on campus and can be scheduled on school days at 9am or 1pm.
For children applying to 1st - 8th grades, Math and Reading will be assessed.
For students applying to 9th - 12th grades, Math, Reading, and a Writing assessment are required.
Academic assessments help our admissions team understand your child’s current content knowledge. Since students are joining ICS from various countries and educational systems around the world, the academic assessment is used as one part of our holistic process for determining your child’s most successful grade placement. If there are concerns that you child is not prepared for the grade they are applying for at ICS, our Admissions Director will contact you.
While the Biblical mandate is clear concerning the responsibility of parents rearing their own children (Deuteronomy 6 and Ephesians 6), it is also clear that parents must at times seek the help of others to care for their children. Therefore, ICS attempts to aid these families through the following guidelines. All students who do not have a parent living in Singapore are required to have a guardian as stipulated below.
Students living with guardians must be age 13 or older.
Students younger than 13 years old are not allowed to live with guardians.
Guardians must be approved by ICS. ICS prefers that students stay with relatives. Those missionaries that are living/working outside the country MAY be permitted to enroll their children if they are living with a guardian that the mission agency or church recommends.
The guardians/parents must take the responsibility to get the necessary student passes for the children. (The office of student records will initiate the online registration with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the guardian/parent(s) must access the website <www.ica.gov.sg> to complete the registration).
ICS will only allow students to stay with guardians that have a “homestay” situation which means that the student MUST live full-time at the guardian’s home. Students may not stay in hostels or dormitory situations.
Parents are still responsible to make sure tuition payments are current.
